We will at the village for breakfast in a local restaurant before we start the trek to Soraypampa (12,800 ft asl). As we start walking our path to Humantay we encounter amazing landscapes, the path is called “Camino Real,” the Royal Path. Step by step we starting gaining altitude until we reached a small village to continue for 1.5 hours. We ascend 1,200 feet an approximate 2 miles up a steep path, trekking is from moderate to difficult.
Once we get to the top of the hill, we experience the amazing turquoise lagoon by the name of Humantay (14,100ft asl). Surrounding the blue lagoon we see steep peaks and the impressive glacier Salkantay, also know as the undomesticated feminine sacred Mountain. Salkantay is one of Peru’s most important sacred Apu with an altitude of 20,600 feet. The Pakos, Inca priest come here quite often to bring offerings of respect to the sacred feminine. The water of this pristine lagoon is crystal-clear and the locals come here to receive the blessings of the Apus. We stop here to take photos and enjoy the amazing views.
After that, we descend to the turquoise waters to enjoy and relax and to have our snack. We also will do our offerings to Mother Earth to show her our gratitude. Later on, there is time to go for a restoring cold swim. After having enjoyed this magical time at Humantay we'll hike back to the village of Soraypampa to have lunch. Then after, we will continue descending while enjoying the breathtaking panoramic views of the Salkantay mountain peaks.
